PERFORMANCE PERSPECTIVES

"Lantana"

REALISM AT ITS BEST

Margaret Pommerance and David Stratton on the SBS Movie Show rate this movie with five stars. For Margaret this is her first 5 Star Movie of the year.

This is a movie for anyone interested in the craft of screen acting -

  • a well-crafted plot
  • a universal theme thoroughly explored
  • actors consistently playing subtext to great effect
  • actors consistently trusting themselves and following instinctively their own intuitive impulses before questing the next written line
  • sub-text strongly generating drama and purposefully propelling the story even though the amount of action/activity in a scene is minimal
  • suppressed emotion generating drama and released emotion leading the story towards its resolution
  • actors playing truthful moments of surprise
  • 'realism' at it's best

YOU SHOULD REALLY SEE THIS MOVIE FOR ITS PERFORMANCE COMPONENT ALONE

I was moved, challenged, engaged and convinced.
