Summer Intensive Success

Intensive Workshops are very useful as they provide the opportunity to focus fully on acting tasks rather than operating as a part-timer which is how many actors are forced to function. Combine that intensity with the uniquely practical nature of Rehearsal Room workshops and participating actors were excited by their achievements and by the techniques they learnt.

The Rehearsal Room process is simple and gives results and I found it compatible with other acting philosophies and technique's, but somehow this one made sense in a very practical way. I had some wonderful revelatory moments during the week.” Linda Keys-McCormack. (MORE)

This workshop provide a number of revelatory moments for actors. You can read about one of in the new Director’s Notes on ‘Listening’.

“It was a great course and although I need to practise what I've learned to make it consistently work for me, it will hold me in good stead for my future performances.” Kristen May (MORE)

This workshop included a great exploration of fundamental process issues (including how to make good decisions fast), television techniques and monologue skills. On the final day each actor shot at least one scene movie style.

Holiday Intensives are just one way of accessing Rehearsal Room processes. These processes help actors stand out from the crowd.

New Play in Production – Auditions Soon
Richard Sarell is directing a play which is booked for the larger theatre at Chapel Off Chapel from the end of April. “Hobson’s Choice” by Harold Brighouse is a charming period comedy set in the 1870’s and requires a large cast of 12 actors – 5 females and 7 males. Auditions will be announced shortly. (TO VIEW CAST LIST CLICK HERE)

Currently the focus is on finding designers for the show but the audition process will be underway shortly. The script will be available at The Rehearsal Room for those who wish to read more detail than just the information in their audition scenes.

Actor DARREN MORT who has produced a number of successful productions including some at Chapel Off Chapel is producing the play. It will be a co-op production.

YET ANOTHER OPPORTUNITY FOR ACTORS TO IMPROVE THEIR SKILLS THROUGH THE REHEARSAL ROOM.

Forrest's Blog a Great Experience

Although they are not yet all online, eight (8) entries of The Rehearsal Room fictional video blog “Forrest’s New Beginning” have now been shot. New episodes will be recorded in the New Year. The entries run between three and five minutes and so far have been shot as single shot, continuous action pieces. At this stage, nine actors have played roles in around Forrest’s life and many more characters will be created in future episodes.

Actors are finding this is great experience as it is not like doing a class. It in fact has all the responsibilities of doing a shoot. Plus the level of difficulty is quite challenging as the scenes are longer in duration than a standard television scene. One scene ran for nearly 4 minutes with a cast of five (5).

Technical Difficulties
The Rehearsal Room is still having difficulty finding a satisfactory way of getting Forrest's Blog on the Internet so you can all view it. Thus far we are using Youtube.com but other productions are achieving a higher quality on Youtube than we are managing. If anyone has any suggestions to offer please contact The Rehearsal Room.

THE IMPORTANCE OF LISTENING
These Directors Notes are the result of a workshop discussion last year. Recognizing their value they were written up but had not been presented prior to the Summer Intensive. There it was discovered they were of great value. Now they are available on The Rehearsal Room website – LISTENING, ‘The Key to Everything’.
