Off-Cut: Six

Australian actors can take heart from Sam Mendes who in 1998-99 directed Nicole Kidman in her acclaimed London stage performance in "The Blue Room". This excerpt was taken from an article in the Murdoch publication "The Australian" on Saturday January 9th 2000. Sam Mendez had spoken with Lynden Barber.

Compared with often "thick-skinned" and "hardened" US and British talent, Australian actors tended to be "very unaffected; very willing to experiment; very innocent" he told The Australian. Mendes said there was "a sense of something so new" about the Australian creative way. "And it's not new in a kind of novelty way. It just has a newness of spirit."
