The Working Director

The director is the actor's first audience. The director's job is to watch the actor perform and decide if,

  • it's believable
  • it's boring.

If it's not boring then the story is being revealed in an engaging way. If it is believable the actor is dealing with,

  • a truthful interaction
  • an identifiable world.

These are the actor's goals - a truthful, engaging and purposeful story.
The director's role - to encourage, clarify and nurture the actor in achieving these goals.
